ID Protection, at times also called WHOIS or Privacy Protection, is a service that hides the genuine contact details of domain registrants on WHOIS check web sites. Without this service, the personal name, address and email account of any domain name owner will be openly available. Giving false info during the domain name registration process or altering the authentic information afterwards will simply not work, as doing such a thing may result in the domain registrant losing their ownership of the domain. The policies adopted by ICANN, the Internet Corporation for Assigned Names and Numbers, demand that the WHOIS info must be correct and accurate at all times. The ID Protection service was introduced by domain name registrars as an answer to the arising concerns for potential identity fraud. If the service is enabled, the registrar’s contact information will appear instead of the domain name registrant’s upon a WHOIS check. Most domains support the ID Protection service, although there are certain country-code extensions that do not.
ID Protection in Shared Hosting
If you order a shared hosting
plan from our company, you will be able to activate ID Protection for any of your domains on the condition that their extensions support this service. You can register/transfer a domain and add ID Protection upon signup or you can activate the service for any of your domain names at any time afterwards via the Hepsia Control Panel. The procedure is incredibly easy – after you log in, you’ll need to visit the Registered Domains section where you will notice a list of all the domains that you’ve registered with us. For each one of them you will see an “ID Protect” logo, which will show you if the service is activated or not. By clicking on it, you can either ID-protect the domain, or you can deactivate the service if it is currently enabled.
ID Protection in Semi-dedicated Servers
If you’ve got a semi-dedicated server
account with us and you register a domain under it, you can activate our ID Protection service without difficulty. This requires only several clicks of the mouse in the Hepsia hosting Control Panel’s Registered Domains section, via which you administer everything related to your account. This is where you can see all your registered domains and for each of them you will see an “ID Protect” button, using which you can order, renew or deactivate the service. Of course, this can be done only with generic and country-specific top-level domain name extensions that are ID Protection-eligible and you’ll be able to see this beforehand, so that you will not end up buying a service that we can’t provide.
